This year at Reseda Rising, 11:11 ACC is taking a leap forward in connecting the arts to environmental stewardship. As an arts org, 11:11 knows that waste is a critical issue the whole world is grappling with. We're ready to do our part to show how we can build and celebrate community with a lot less garbage.
That means that at this year’s event, we're trying to reduce our waste footprint by 75%+. For our art market and food vendors, this means prioritizing products that come in little to no packaging, that is either clearly biodegradable (cones, paper, buns, tortillas, fruit skins, etc.) or recyclable (glass and aluminum). If we're doing this right, we're:
1) Saving you money.
2) Diverting waste from landfills.
3) Reducing all solid waste, including recycling.
Here's what we are asking of our food trucks and art vendors:
1) No selling of drinks/water in plastic bottles.
2) No plastic bags.
3) No plastic utensils. Provide chopsticks, toothpicks, paper scoops, or other alternatives.
4) No styrofoam.
5) Paper napkins by request only.
6) No plastic straws. Paper straws by request only.
7) Offer a discount to people that bring their own cups, bottles, utensils or straws.
HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO!
1. SPREAD THE WORD!
2. BRING YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE!
3. If you're going to drink beer in our Valley Beer Garden, BRING YOUR OWN 10oz CUP!
4. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD UTENSILS!
5. BRING YOUR OWN SHOPPING BAG (to carry all that awesome art and super cool zines you might buy!)
6. PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE YOU THROW YOUR GARBAGE!
Throughout the event you'll find WASTE HUBS. These waste hubs are for properly discarding your trash. There will be 3 trash cans at each hub:
this one's important
All food waste and non-waxy paper. (In the future, all waste should be designed to turn into soil.)
All empty bottles and cans and all clean waxy paper. (Recycling is not the answer, but we should always recycle when we can.)
3. EVERYTHING ELSE...
which ends up in the landfill. If we all make good purchases and choices, maybe landfills will be like the dinosaurs.
If you'd like to support this cause, please spread the word!
